How to Watch ipod Video On Your tv
If you own an ipod video player you can watch your movies or videos on your tv. Here is an easy cheap way to send ipod video to TV.
Apple wants you to buy there expensive "special" ipod video cable. There is a way around that. You can use a standard digital camcorder cable or go to your local Radio Shack or Walmart and pick up a camcorder av cable like in the picture.
You want a three-plug yellow/red/white RCA connection at one end and a three-banded eighth-inch (3.5mm) A/V plug at the other.
Plug the 1/8 in. plug into your ipod. Next turn on your ipod and go to videos... video settings. Go to your TV out setting and you will have 3 choices. Yes, No and Ask.
Yes is for always playing on your TV only. No will only play on your ipod screen and ask will prompt you for your choice. Probably the best to use is ask.
If you have a widescreen tv set this to on. NTSC is what you want for U.S. Pal is a different type of signal and mainly used in Europe.
Select an input you are going to use on your television. If you have a set of front AV jacks they are the easiest to get to.
This is where apple switched there cable around so you think you have to buy there cable to make it work. Connect your cable the following way -
* Plug the red RCA plug into your TV's yellow RCA jack.
* Plug the yellow RCA plug into your TV's white RCA jack.
* Plug the white RCA plug into your TV's red RCA jack.
Select your TV input and start your ipod playback and you should see your movie playing on your TV. I found the quality is equal to watching a DVD!
If you have humming or poor audio you have either the tv volume too loud and the ipod too low or the other way around. Your TV volume should be where you normally have it. Use the ipod to adjust the volume.
I think this is great. I joined an unlimited ipod download site and have been downloading tons of movies!!

I have a Ipod classic 80gb and this does not work, any suggestions.....
I'm not getting it to work for me...what color cable goes with the video/audio slots? My TV isn't colored, it just has the text.
After that, should it be on the channel that shows DVD's normally? Or what? And will it show up on the iPod screen when it is working, or will it always say "attach iPod accessory"?
yeah, i have a 30 gb ipod, i tried doing it too. doesn't work. what am i doing wrong? does it only work with the latest ipod? ipod touch maybe?

Just an FYI. I have been dealing with this the past two days. The 80GB IPOD Classic does NOT work this way. You have no choice but to buy there cable (Approx $40). It prompts you to plug in the Video Component to the bottom. I know this because my roommate has a 5th generation and it worked fine with the above method. Anything to get a buck out of you!
i can only get sound when i plug in my IPOD TOUCH to the tv useing the proper cables.i heard they dont put video output in earphone jack in the touch or any new ipods is this true?ive tried everything and still only sound.
Thanks for the tip ... I have ipod classic 30g and i tried your suggestion a couple of days ago and it working out perfectly. LOve it Love it ....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This method will only work with really old iPods with newer iPods you will need a cable with the 3 RCA plugs (White, Red, Yellow) like in the photo but instead of the black plug as in the photo the other plug on the cable should be the wide plug that plugs into the bottom of your ipod (like what you plug in when you sync your iPod, not the usb part the other part). The bad news is the genuine Apple AV cable costs a lot but the good news is you can get a generic copy which works just as well. I managed to pick up mine for $9.95.
im amazed it worked on my 1st generation video now i can watch movies and tv shows on my tv
WON'T WORK FOR IPOD TOUCH I HATE IT I WANNA WATCH VIDEOS ON MY TV BUT IT WONT WORK EVEN TRYING THT
i have a black and yellow cord (came with my canon camera)
Will it work??
Yup really one cent and I have bought 2 HDMI cables from them and other products from eforcity.com. They are based out of a California and have their own website eforcity.com. total cost is 1 cent + shipping & handling + tax
You mean Apple wants you to buy "their"... instead of there.
My ipod is a 3generation 32 gb and it doesnt work i can only hear it
Thanks for the info. Finally got it to work after reading this!
yeah i can only hear it on my tv i got a ipod touch 3rd gen ......so i cant get it to work ????????
I just bought the digital av adapter from aple to watch videos from my iPhone 4 but the picture is very bad can somebody tell if there is a special way to do it
Thanks
